The Process Space

The space features an event room outfitted with a 4-point Danley sound system, and our newly renovated cocktail bar and lounge with seating and public cubbies for your things. Our full bar offers a selection of proper craft cocktails, as well as plenty of non-alcoholic options. Process was created as a social space to immerse yourself in body music on a high quality sound system, and to experience connection and healing by participating in dance community. Process is located at Watershed, 5040 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland OR. Entrance (ADA accessible) is on SE Milwaukie.

Process is open during scheduled events, Wednesday through Saturday from 3pm to 2am.

Mission

Process strives to facilitate a safer space for all humans to gather and experience community, high quality sound, and higher vibrations. We believe in prioritizing access for communities who have been historically and are presently marginalized. Prioritizing Black, Indigenous and People of Color alongside our entire LGBTQ+ community means working to provide financial accessibility, having people on our staff who represent those communities, and maintaining open dialogue on how we can continue to improve and course correct our vision. This is a work in progress, stay tuned as Process unfolds.

Community Guidelines

Process is the vision for a space where the greater underground music scene can come together to build stronger, safer communities. The venue itself is just a space. The energy is created by you, us, and the entire history of dance music culture. As this movement progresses, we must also adapt to meet our community’s needs. Our Community Agreement is a foundation to build on; to make room for everyone’s authenticities. Whether you’ve been dancing for years or this is your first time in an underground scene, there is a role for you to play. To cultivate the magic of a superb night out, we ask everyone to embody the following:

Respect is mandatory. We have a zero tolerance policy for any forms of transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, ageism, sexism, xenophobia, religious discrimination, or any other form of discriminatory action. Use of language, actions or displays of discrimination (i.e. signs, stickers, clothing etc) will result in a permanent ban from our space.
We also ask that you respect yourselves. This is a place for everyone to explore their depths; Avoiding being overly intoxicated gives room for everyone to do so.

Consent is key. And it is a practice. Asking for consent regularly is a great way to keep everyone feeling safer. A NO can be verbal, physical or hard to discern. A YES is clear, direct and sober. Always ask before touching or engaging physically with someone.

The Dance Floor is for Dancing! People come to dance floors to close their eyes and let the music take over. To respect everyone’s privacy, we do not allow photographing or filming of the dance floor. Keep all cell phone use inside the bar area. We also ask folks to minimize loud conversations on the dance floor. Please be mindful that while on the dance floor, folks may be experiencing all manner of internal processing and it is best to wait until they are off the dance floor to engage in conversation with them.

Please let our bystanders wearing light up lanyards, bar staff, security or any other staff member know if you see or experience any noncompliances. For a more in depth explanation of our rules and policies around conduct, check out our Policies page. We are here to uphold these agreements for everyone, ourselves included. This is a living document, built to adapt as our needs change. If you have any input or suggestions, please contact us via our contact form on our website. Thank you for being a part of our Process.
